Winter has a way of drawing us inward. In the stillness of the season, we can hear ourselves more clearly — our compassion, our questions, our desire to understand a world that often feels uncertain. At Spyder, we believe writing is one of the most enduring ways to respond to that uncertainty. Words become a kind of architecture: they hold what matters, they outlast the moment, and they connect us across distances that might otherwise feel unbridgeable.
This year, as we open our first Winter Poems Anthology, we do so with a renewed sense of purpose. Suffering remains a daily reality for many — in places such as Sudan and Palestine, where hardship has become woven into the fabric of life. We cannot solve these crises with poetry, but we can acknowledge them, honour humanity, and commit to compassion in the ways we are able.
Supporting BookTrust reminds us of the transformative power of reading — of giving children the stories that shape them. Supporting UNICEF reminds us of our shared responsibility to care for those whose voices are too often unheard. Through this fundraiser, creativity becomes a conduit: between writer and reader, intention and impact, winter and warmth.
Our goal is simple: to raise £500 and to fill this season with words that uplift, reflect, and carry meaning forward.
Thank you for being part of this project, and for believing that writing still has the power to bring people together.
