- Where are you based?
Marseille, France
- Do you feel like where you live has had any impact on your art?
I think it is inevitable. Marseille is a big city and a melting-pot of people coming from everywhere, with different backgrounds and stories.
- What inspires you?
The queer community and the non-standardised body types
- Do you think individuality is important when creating art?
Well, art itself should be an expression of individuality or – better said – your own voice
- How do you deal with criticism in art?
I love it
- What is your process of creation? [How do your ideas travel to your final piece?
I usually start sketching on my Ipad, where I have the freedom and flexibility to cancel everything and start again very quickly, then either I continue on digital medium or I pass to traditional mediums, such as canvas and acrylics.
- What is your favourite part of creating?
The ah-ha moment of finding the right concept for an illustration
- Do you have any favourite artists?
Impossible to choose. I would say my latest works are heavily inspired by Henri Matisse, while my most editorial works probably have to be grateful to the work of Malika Favre, Keith Haring and Akira Toriyama.
- Do you have any favourite artworks?
I like the kiss of Gustav Klimt
- How do you stay consistent when making art?
I make art everyday
- Do you ever feel discontent with your artwork, if so how do you deal with it?
Most of the time, I just accept the imperfection and embrace it: that what makes us human, right?
- What are difficulties in selling artwork, how do you deal with them?
I am going to open my online shop soon, so I will answer this question afterwards I guess
- Did you study art in school, if so did you find it beneficial? If you didn’t, how were you able to navigate learning without a formal education in art?
I never studied art in school. Certainly my degree in architecture heavily helped me with proportions, structure of a drawing and aesthetics.
- Maurizio Catellan’s Comedian sold for a large sum of $6.2 million at Sotheby’s. This hurled social media into a great outcry about the value of modern art, can art like this be considered real art? Are there parameters for what art is?
I do not think it is up to us to define what “real” art is. (exception made for AI “art”, that one is not real of course) I believe it is legitimate for an artist to put the price according to their brand identity and to the performance within it. High fashion has been doing this forever and nobody is complaining that much about that.
- Has the art consumer world become blind to status and over-intellectualising art?
Maybe, but we tend to over-intellectualise everything nowadays.
- Is Ego necessary in Art?
I guess it is part of it.
- Do you think everyone should consume art? If yes, what are the benefits?
Everyone should implement cultural activities in their everyday life: art has so many different forms and the benefits are scientifically proven as reducing stress, improving empathy and overall stimulating the brain.
- Does everyone have an innate ability to understand art whether abstract or classical? If yes, how can someone refine this quality to engage with art on a deeper level? If not, do you think that an ability to understand art is acquired?
I do not think so. Sensitivity, and that, is acquired when you free yourself from the barriers you have built to protect yourself from the outside world.
- How do you feel about the art that you create?
I feel I am fulfilling my purpose.
- What is something you wish consumers of art would understand?
That producing art is passionate but also is a work and needs to be rewarded as such.
- What is the greatest advice you’ve ever heard in relation to your art?
Be consistent!
