The David Lynch Estate Auction

Posted on

450 items were sold from the late filmmaker’s belongings at an estate auction in Beverly Hills. David Lynch remains one of our greatest inspirations—we proudly call ourselves “Lynchians.” That’s what brings us to this (admittedly overdue) post on the standout pieces from the auction, showcasing relics that once defined Lynch’s world. From his original paintings to a curious set of ten Eraserhead VHS tapes, here’s what truly caught our eye.

1. “Twin Peaks” Scripts Under “Northwest Passage” Title

Before Twin Peaks became a groundbreaking TV phenomenon, it was developed under the working title Northwest Passage. These early scripts mark the origin of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s surreal murder mystery, set in a quiet Washington town shaken by the death of homecoming queen Laura Palmer. As FBI Agent Dale Cooper investigates, a web of secrets, strange visions, and supernatural forces begins to unravel.

What makes this auction truly special is that these scripts represent a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the creation of one of television’s most influential series. They may include scenes and ideas that never made it to air — offering a glimpse into an alternate version of the show. For fans, scholars, and collectors, it’s more than memorabilia; it’s a tangible piece of pop culture history, the raw blueprint of a dream that changed television forever.

2. Berlin Wall Fragment

This isn’t just a chunk of concrete — it’s a piece of actual world history. Once part of the Berlin Wall, it’s a symbol of division, change, and freedom.

Add to that the fact that it’s been in the hands of someone who sees the world through a deeply surreal, symbolic lens, and it becomes more than just a relic — it’s a statement. Heavy in meaning, light in explanation. Just the way it should be.

3. Man Ray Signed “Two Hands” Limited-Edition Print

A signed, limited-edition print of Two Hands by Man Ray — one of the most iconic surrealist artists of the 20th century. This piece captures everything he was about: mystery, minimalism, and that perfect line between the poetic and the strange.

4. Director’s chair

The original director’s chair, complete with his name stitched on the back — a simple object that held a whole lot of vision. This is where big creative decisions were made, from the quiet moments to the truly bizarre ones.

It sold for $91,000, a testament to how even the most unassuming things become legendary when tied to a body of work that changed the game.

5. Four “Mulholland Drive” Prop Menus

Straight from the dreamscape of Mulholland Drive, these four prop menus are from scenes set in Club Silencio and Winkie’s Diner — places burned into the memory of anyone who’s seen the film.

6. Many, Many Books

A big collection of books covering everything from film theory and art to poetry and some pretty obscure topics.

7. “Mulholland Drive” Scripts

These original scripts show the early blueprint for Mulholland Drive, a film famous for its mysterious, dreamlike storytelling. They reveal the creative process and the ideas that shaped one of cinema’s most puzzling and memorable movies.

The scripts sold for a staggering $104,000 — ann extravagant number, but speaks to just how rare and sought-after these pages are.

8. “Dune” Production Office Vintage Telephone

An authentic vintage telephone used on the Dune production office set. It’s a small but cool piece of film history — the kind of everyday object that helped keep one of sci-fi’s biggest movies running behind the scenes.

Simple, iconic, and surprisingly full of stories.

So that was the main 8 of our favourite picks from the Auction. What do you think? Would you ever buy art grails, does the idea of seeing something that Lynch was owned up for sale now make you uncomfortable, is the price complete unjust? What’s your favourite thing here?

Let us know in the comments and see you in the next one.

We’ll be here waiting,

where all the love goes
